Living the Good Life!

Well, it's official - at the ripe old age of 26, I am retired...at least for now. From the beginning, Nathan and I were pretty sure I would be staying home with the baby, but being the worry wart that I am, I couldn't bring myself to officially make this decision...until Daven made his debut. Six weeks of sleepless nights and continuous loving moments I knew I wasn't ready to head back to the work world. This little guy needed me, and, if we could make it work then I knew what my new job would be until he was old enough to go to school. Am I nervous? Heck Yes! Will it be hard? At times, of course! Is it worth it? More than words can explain!

Watching our son grow up has been the best job in the world...and I've only held it for 7 weeks :) My days of heels, slacks, and blouses have now been replaced with spit-up covered t-shirts, ponytails, and if lucky, a shower!

Meet the soon-to-be Ruffin's!

A couple weekends ago, Daven had the pleasure to meet Tom and Amanda! A little background history- Amanda and I met during Freshman orientation at FSU (8 years ago...hard to believe!) and then ended up rushing the same Sorority.

Amanda and Tom are getting married in June and I have the honor of being a bridesmaid in their wedding! We spent the day catching up, trying on bridesmaid dresses, looking at MORE bridesmaid dresses (the perfect one was found!), and enjoyed spending time with wonderful friends!

L.O.V.E.

"I love you, not only for what you are, But for what I am when I am with you." ~Roy Croft

One Month!

That's right folks, Nathan and I have kept this child alive for ONE FULL MONTH! We've made it through one month of poopy diapers, sleepless nights, bouts of crying, and lots of wonderful memories! This little guy has stolen our hearts and wrapped us around his little finger! Obviously that was accomplished within the first few hours of his arrival, but the love we have for Daven continues to grow stronger each and every day! We are constantly amazed by how quickly he is growing up - stop! Slow down! - their are aunties who need to meet you before your a big boy! :)

Each night when I'm up for the hundreth time feeding, rocking, or trying to sooth a crying baby I find myself reveling at the little life Nathan and I created. I don't mind being sleep deprived - it gives me more time with my little man. Seeing those little blue eyes looking up at you as if to say, "hi mom, I love you too" melts my heart every single time!

P.S. Trying to take a picture of a one month old who can't really sit up on his own and doesn't like to sit still is no easy feat! For all the mom's out there who captured each month perfectly, I applaud you!

Baby, Let Me See That Smile!

Adorable Newborn baby pictures - all the rage right now. From posing your unswaddled child in a basket to dressing him or her in hats and sacks has become a must for newbie mom's. I must admit, I am one of those mom's and immediately began researching professional infant photographers to capture Daven in his first few days of life. If only one week old's were able to travel 4 hours, Daven would have made his first road trip to Tallahassee to have these pictures taken. There are a plethora of AMAZING photographers in Tallahasee and I have fallen head over heels for their work! Unfortunately that would just be cruel so I had to limit my photographer search to the greater Tampa Bay area. Lucky for us, we found an awesome photographer through family friends and were very pleased with his work!

Remember, the point of these pictures is to capture your little one within their first few days of life - no problem right? Hah - you haven't met Daven yet! The little man with a BIG personality! Daven inherited his stubborness from not one, but both of his parents - he wants what he wants, when he wants it. Yes, even at four days of age when his life consists of eating, sleeping, and pooping, he decided he did not, may I repeat, DID NOT want to have his picture taken.

A GIGANTIC thank you to Jason Angelini for his patience and time extension to try and capture these must have pictures. Jason was so wonderful to work with through this whole process and did capture some awesome pictures - even the ones of Daven crying turned out well and provide Nathan and I with a memory of that day! I can already hear our second child asking why they never got cute pictures like their big brother Daven...oh non-existent second child you - trust me, you are much better off this way! :)

We Love You To The Moon & Back...

"I'll Love You Forever, I'll Like You For Always. As Long As I'm Living, My Baby You'll Be."
Choosing a name for a little person you have yet to meet is a huge responsibility! Will the name fit his personality? Will people think I'm crazy? Will he think I was crazy for picking that name? These questions raced through my mind as I collaborated a list of family names to share with Nathan. I have always been fascinated with history, especially family history and wanted our little boy to hold a piece of both of his parents. Lucky for me, I have an AMAZING husband who is just as into family as I am. The list was not long as we quickly decided we wanted a name that was unique, but not completely out of this world, had a beautiful meaning, and honored both families. Daven was selected from Nathan's grandmothers maiden name, Davenport. His first name also means "prayer" - something truly fitting since he truly was an answer to our prayers! His middle name, Robert, was selected to honor my father - the amazing man who helped raise me to be the woman I am today.

And Baby Makes Three!

From the moment I met Nathan I knew he'd be an amazing father (and husband). His kind and loving heart made me fall head over heels for him immediately! We always talked about a family and how exciting it would be to have a "mini" Nikki and Nathan in our life. Being the planner that I am, of course I had a timeline of how long we needed to be married, when I wanted to get pregnant, and how I wanted the pregnancy to go. Well, as Nathan reminds me daily, "tell God your plans and hear him laugh" - we found out we were expecting on April 27th- Nathan's 29th birthday :)

12 Weeks!
We were very fortunate to have a "textbook" pregnancy as our Doctor told us at each appointment. Our little man was healthy, happy, and growing quickly! Lucky for me, I didn't experience much morning sickness and truly enjoyed the entire pregnancy!

Through the entire pregnancy we laughed daily at our little man's personality, which he quickly showed in his first ultrasound at 9 weeks - the little guy was moving and shaking all over the place! In addition, he inherited his parents stubborness and decided he wanted to hang out in utero for a little longer than 40 weeks - this little guy wanted to make sure EVERYONE knew he was coming! As I said before, I am a planner and like to be in control of all aspects of my life. Well, our little nugget taught me early you can't always be in control. From the moment we found out we were expecting, I wanted to have a completely natural birth...I know, call me crazy, but I wanted to experience every aspect of the birthing process. Well, since our little man was snug as a bug, I had no choice but to be induced. Yes, it wasn't how I had planned, but all we cared about was having a healthy baby boy.

We welcomed Daven Robert Varn on Monday, January 9, 2012 at 2:15pm. He is truly our little blessing!
